When the Spanish consulate asks for a traducción oficial al castellano, it means a sworn translation from a traductor-intérprete jurado appointed by Spain's Foreign Ministry. An ordinary US certified translation will be turned away. We coordinate the sealed, official version — and the apostille that has to come before it.
A traductor jurado is a translator appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their translation carries the translator's own signature and seal in the wording the Ministry prescribes — and stands before Spanish courts and offices on the same footing as the original.
Consulate pages and agencies all describe the same thing. The last one on this list is the exception — and the one that gets files rejected.

Yes — traducción jurada is the translation itself and traductor jurado (or traductora jurada) is the appointed translator who produces it. You may also see traducción oficial, sworn translation or MAEC-certified translation. Consulate instructions usually phrase it as a traducción oficial al castellano. All the same thing. A traducción certificada — a standard US certified translation — is a different product that Spain generally does not accept.
It depends on your case. Check the Spanish consulate's requirements for your specific document and purpose — sometimes a sworn translation is required, sometimes it is not. We will not sell you something you do not need. Once you know what is required, we produce the sworn translation and can cover the apostille too.
