The exchange program with the United States for  students

A contest has been announced for participation in the YEAR (Year of Exchange for America) exchange program, which provides able Russian students the opportunity to study for one year at US colleges and universities for free. Deadline November 9, 2019.

Organizer: The program is sponsored by the US Embassy in Russia.

The YEAR program provides talented Russians with a unique opportunity to study for one year at US institutions of higher education, learn more about the United States of America, establish close ties and constructive interaction with representatives of local communities, tell Americans about culture and history. Russia, as well as get a new and clearer picture of modern American society.

The goal of the program is also to improve the level of English language skills and subject knowledge. Program participants study subjects in their major specialty and American studies. They also have the opportunity to choose different courses from new academic disciplines. Participants live in hostels or American host families.

In addition to their studies, they participate in local community events and conduct three professional interviews during the school year. Interviews are conducted with professionals from areas that reflect the academic interests of participants. They enable YEAR finalists to learn more about working conditions in America and how to apply academic knowledge in practical work.

YEAR participants are selected on the basis of academic performance, level of English proficiency, maturity and ability to overcome the difficulties of living and studying in a new cultural environment. The program supports participants with disabilities who are enrolled in educational institutions fully equipped for students with disabilities and ensuring their access to full-fledged education.

After the end of the program, students are obliged to return to Russia, extension of the period of study and / or stay in the United States is impossible.

The program is open to applicants who:

- were born in the period from July 20, 1998 to July 1, 2001.

- are university students, high school graduates or schoolchildren who graduate from high school before July 2019

- fluent in English (verbally and in writing)

- demonstrate high academic performance

- have the opportunity to start studying in the USA in July 2019

- Apostille diploma meet the criteria for obtaining a US visa category J-1

- A TOEFL certificate or other international exams is not required at the application stage. The program will pay for testing for all those who passed the next round.

The program is fully funded by the US Government and covers the following costs:

- International flight from the city of residence of the participant to a college or university in the United States and back

- cost of training and accommodation

- medical insurance

- orientation on arrival

- round-the-clock support from local coordinators
